"In turning Babbitt into a martyr, Trump and his followers are creating their own-stabbed-in-the-back myth of the events January 6. The day is now being recast as innocent patriots, arrested and killed for spurious reasons. Babbitt is being mythologized as a figure like Horst Wessel, the young stormtrooper killed by communists in 1930 whose death served as a rallying cry for Nazis. "

The cop shot a Republican and that's horrifying. A cop shooting a 'Democrat' be it a black dude in Minnesota or a white kid working on his truck in Arkansas - well, isn't that what we pay the police for? To murder the uppity disrespectful people?

Overthrowing the government was the point and the cop helped prevent that.

"For better or worse, the interpretative battle over January 6 is likely to play out in the 2022 midterms. One might prefer, as I do, for Democrats to run on the economy. But Trump seems set on vindicating his actions and his followers."

Trump's looking uphill at indictments rolling his way - so he emerged to try and rally the troops to attack the government again. Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema have been buying time for them to regroup and attempt another assault. The argument is the same old argument - is the country a haven for rich white power freaks using their control of the South to dominate the government and society or is it a normal democratic country located in the 21st century?

The discourse tends to focus on the petit bourgeoisie (people 'out there') and overlooks the temptations for your average narcissistic billionaire (people 'in here').

She was a person with family and friends and their loss should not be politically tossed around! It is hard to read how heartless some comments are. The tragedy is using a person’s death to ramp up a cause!
