Thanks for the column and the LOAC show. Recommend everyone tune in and get that great book. And always read any reprint volume with a Jeet Heer intro. Coincidentally I was just finishing up republishing a 20 year old article I wrote for Hogan’s Alley on the seminal pop culture critic Gilbert Seldes. In 1923 Seldes celebrated the comic strip as an invaluable “vulgar” antidote to creeping gentility. Would love your thought. Posted today at my PanelsandProse.com site.

"Hearst put his inherited wealth to to become a press baron"

As usual Jeet, this is a prodigiously researched and insightful piece. As a criticism that I hope you'll perceive as a constructive, I'm seeing signs of fatigue in your output as this piece is somewhat poorly edited compared to your usual meticulous tone and well chosen words.

Maybe you need a break, with your preferred guest editor grabbing the reins once a week? The quality of your writing is the reason why I chose to subscribe. Please don't let fatigue and lack of editing bring it down....
