Somehow I got on JD Vance's email list and have received 3 requests for money. The subject headings for these emails:

1. Why are we listening to childless cat ladies?

2. No more cat ladies--a subject heading followed by a rhetorical question asking why we're turning over our country to people who have no direct stake in it--meaning the childless.

3. The childless left is ruining America. [If any one group is ruining America, I am inclined to say it is the people who reproduce irresponsibly--they have children but don't provide for them either physically or emotionally. ]

Shaming women for not being baby factories and the LGBT folk who don't become parents has been the standard MO of the neo-con since Lee Atwater made "Southern values" the clarion call-cum-dog whistle of Reagan's Southern strategy in the 1980s. Lee Atwater (d. 1991) was the grandfather of mainstreaming white Christian nationalism in the GOP, turning the secular GOP into an extremist religious and natalist party. JD Vance is his spiritual and intellectual scion and aspiring heir.

Great post, Jeet. It's been... interesting to watch Vance run the troll-to-the-top strategy that seems to work for so many on the right. He looks and sounds massively out of place.

“One could note that the case for natalism doesn’t just have to be economic but could rest on a broader assertion of reproductive freedom: in a well ordered society people would be free to have as few and as many children as they want, which can be hampered in either direction by lack of access to birth control and abortion of lack of financial and social support for childrearing. ”

What follows the colon does not describe natalism or a case for natalism. Natalism is advocacy of child-bearing.

Wanting a well-ordered society where one is not hampered by finances or restrictions to medical pregnancy-planning options so people can make their own choices freely is the opposite of natalism.

Krugman is obsessed with his own belief system and little ability to have empathy with those who disagree (generally wiser people). He is clearly a nutcase and "Cat Lady" related to certain women who become obssessed with cats and present a superiority associated with such cats and all things related to the feline culture.

Cat ladys have a high probablity of being teachers or journalists. People who dont listen but preach...It actually suits Krugman well. His Keynsian - Democrat fanaticism is his obession.

I just know Krugman has little standing in Economics anymore as he fouses on Leftist Democrat polcices and has littl etime for any criticism... much like the crazy obsessed cat lady we had in my town who lived off of her teachers' pension... she had a 100 cats when she died...Krugman is a loon

Have you seen his obsession with Keynsian solutions? His Nobel is in international trade economics not fiscal policy...hes obsessed...hes a loon...he should get some cats

And if I remember, Kevin Drum once wrote that cat owners tend D and dog owners R. So there may be another layer of innuendo.
